Tigers fans can now rejoice, no more Brad Penny in the Motor City
Not only will he not be pitching for the Tigers, not any MLB team for that matter. Penny is nearing a deal in Japan to play for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks according to sources.
The SoftBank Hawks have been a pretty good team historically since the late 50’s winning 5 Japan Series titles and 15 PL Pennants.
Brad pitched well in spots last season but not very well overall. He posted a 11-11 record with a 5.30 ERA. But the worst of his stats was his strikeout-to-walk ratio at 1.2. Which was the WORST, I repeat the WORST in the MLB. The lone bright spots were, he won more then 10 games like DD had wanted and he pitched 180 innings, like DD had wanted.
Penny had tweeted earlier this week that he had offers from teams here in the US (like who Brad? The Astros and Pirates?) but the offer in Japan was much better.
Let’s face it, I’m sure there weren’t teams lined up knocking on Penny’s door once he became a free-agent. He’s a mediocre 5th starting pitcher, and just doesn’t have the control anymore to be consistent in the MLB. Going overseas would be the smartest choice for Brad.
Don’t let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya Brad!
