The lists of baseball’s prospects came out. The tiger that made the biggest jump was Nick Castellanos. Nick went from number 75 in 2011 to number 37 in 2012. This is a 38 spot jump, which makes this the 4th largest jump by a position player between the last two years. Last year Nick hit .312 with 36 doubles and 7 home runs. This will obviously raise the question what do we do with him? Now that Miguel is at 3rd and Prince at 1st the infield is crowded. Nick is still a few years from being ready for the big league. Nick is our 3rd basemen of the future, no doubt about it. For now he is in the minors waiting to get his opportunity. The 19 year old will get his chance.
Turner was listed as the number 29 prospect. This is a drop from last year when he was ranked number 22. Even with making 3 starts last season Turner can retain his rookie status. Turner is a front runner to win the #5 spot in the rotation this year. Now that the Tigers didn’t sign a veteran pitcher to fill that roll it opened up to be filled within. Turner isn’t the only option, so he won’t win the job outright. So this should be a very fun and interesting spring training.
