Recently the news surfaced that Brandon Inge will have a shot to win the 2nd base job. This is a smart move, I feel for the Tigers. Putting hitting to the side for now, Inge is one of the best and most consistent fielders the Tigers have on their roster. The biggest concern would be Inge playing a whole new position. This shouldn’t be to much of a concern since Inge played catcher. Third and second are much more alike than third and catcher. Inge will have to learn the proper way to pivot when fielding or making the turn for the double play, but any good professional should pick that up rather quickly.
Another thing is Inge has been a tiger his whole career. Instead of demanding a trade last year when designated for assignment he went down worked on his game and came back and contributed. Inge is a first class person that loves being in a Tiger uniform. There are not many people like that left these days. He deserves a shot to at least platoon with Ramon Santiago at second.
